Hold On

Living Loved When Living’s Hard | Day 6
Reading: 1 Peter 2:11-12

“Dear friends, I urge you as strangers and temporary residents to abstain from fleshly desires that war against you..” — 1 Peter 2:11 (HCSB)

Friend, I know you’re tired.

I’m tired.

We’re just tired.

We’re tired of seeing disagreements.
We’re tired of hearing arguments.
We’re tired of hate.
We’re tired of sin.

It’s not easy living here sometimes.
It’s not easy living somewhere you don’t fully belong.
It’s not easy living someplace that isn’t Home.

We want more.
We want wrongs to be made right.
We want families made whole.
We want justice. We want love. We want perfection.

We long for that.
We long for rest.
We long for stillness.
We long for perfect contentment.

And we should.

We aren’t meant to stay here.
We’re just visiting.
We’re not Home.

The longing is good.
That longing for everything to be right again,
it’s what keeps us focused heavenward.

But it can also discourage us.

Don’t be discouraged.
Don’t fear.
Don’t worry.

We know Who holds the world.
We know Who overcame death.
We know Who wins in the end.

He is our strength.
He is our stronghold.
He is at our back.
He is by our side.

What can harm us?

So,
Traveler,
Stranger,
Exile,

Hold on.

Keep going.

Trust in His strength and His wisdom.
Trust in His promises and His truth.

You are meant to be here.
Now.
In this time.

This is the moment for which you were created.

So give freely.
Serve willingly.
Love deeply.

Spread His love.
Spread His grace.
Spread His forgiveness.

The pain might not stop.
The hurting might not stop.
Sister, it may never end in this life.

But the hard, long road will be over one day.

And when you see His face,
When you’re done with this world,
When your journey is over,
When you hear those words,
“Well done, my servant, my friend.”

It will be worth it.

Every bruise,
Every scar,
Every broken heart,

Will be covered,
Will be fixed,
Will be healed,
Never to feel pain again.

And it will be worth it.
